ABSTRACT

Mark is a fictitious drug user. The overdose leads to Mark being admitted to a local hospital, where he is given specialist care. An outreach worker, Phil, makes contact with him and seeks to persuade him into treatment. Dr Ashton continued with his assessment procedure, referring to what Phil had already written into his more brief assessment, checking in more detail on the client's level of use, his history of use, physical health- symptoms, injecting sites. Mark acknowledges his need for change, and the idea of moving out of area comes to him. Mark has his first counselling session - he finds it hard adjusting to it, but begins to talk about his past. He discusses further the idea of moving away and a suitable pharmacy is found for supervised consumption. Mark has a heavy drinking session and doesn't make it to the next counselling session.
