ABSTRACT

Upon completion of Chapter 3, readers will be able to identify and describe the elements of the Intrapersonal Information Flow Model (e.g., internal/external stimuli/interference, noise, perceptual screens, etc.) along with related components (e.g., short-term, working, and long-term memory, primes, framing). They will be able to describe the role of scripts and nature and functions of schemas (e.g., self, people, occupational, event, cultural, etc.), and their relationship to listening processes, particularly perceiving, evaluating, storing and recalling information. Understanding these concepts will help readers identify factors that may be affecting their listening processes.
