ABSTRACT

The first part of the essay demonstrated that the established second-order theories rely on a taming approach towards the existing plurality of political views. Since we are not able to neutralize reasonable political disagreement significantly by way of argument, this essay proposes a philosophical U-turn. The idea is to work out a political institutional scheme that is based on making use of reasonable disagreement rather than on hedging and taming it, in the hopes that such a conception will fare better in the RoCD Test. Chapter 6 identifies and sketches two paradigmatic approaches to making use of diverse perspectives. Both approaches will be analyzed in much detail in Chapters 7 and 8.
