ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the impact of different cultures on student’s settings, the children attending, the staff and the environment. It reflects on and adapts student’s practice to include the various cultures that are brought into student’s settings. The chapter analyses culture in relation to language and cultural practices, recent research and the Early Years Foundation Stage. It considers the different cultures experienced in student’s settings. The reasons for migration considered here have been linked to migration from one country to another. Many of the songs for older children, that have been included in their book, are also described as multicultural, in that they are appropriate for all cultures. Within each culture or group of society each baby and very young child begins to learn 'a sense of self', they develop their own identity. Cultural norms and expectations vary across each country and across the world.
