ABSTRACT
Foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign invested enterprises (FIEs) have had a major influence on China’s economy. In this chapter, we first highlight the role that foreign investment has played in total investment, specific industries, and trade in China. We see that except for trade, the relative importance of FDI appears to be low and falling as a portion of China’s economic aggregates.
