ABSTRACT

In April 2011, Le Monde Magazine published an article on some of Picasso’s less documented works, among them the many informal drawings and sketches given to friends. For the most part, the owners of such works are reluctant to be interviewed or even named. Riffaud, on the other hand, is nearly always at home to interviewers and since her friendship with Picasso is widely known (a photograph of them exchanging a kiss appears on Google Images), the writer of the piece, Michel Guerrin, made his way to her door. Unfortunately, although the journalist referred in his article to the sale of Picasso’s original (in 1995), the wording was ambiguous and, shortly after publication, Riffaud was the victim of an attempted burglary. Now a notice outside her door reminds would-be intruders that she only has copies.
