ABSTRACT
Miss Bilgrami, daughter of Shams-ul-Ulama Syed Hussain Bilgrami of Hyderabad, has passed the First Examination in Arts of the Madras University, with honours. in Arabic.· The young lady is the first Mohammedan girl who has ventured to compete for University honours. Miss Bilgrami is the only daughter of Shams-ul-Ulama, and is a zenana lady. The difficulties under which she has laboured have been very great, being heavily handicapped as compared with ladies to whom more freedom is allowed. Miss Bilgrami had to pursue her studies and undergo all her coaching at home, not being permitted to attend lectures at a college. She was allowed to sit for her examination in the Gosha School at Hyderabad. under the surveillance of Miss Evans, the headmistress of the school.-Daily News, Feb. 12.
