ABSTRACT

Jurisdiction of Magistrates in reference to married women has become law, passing through all itR stages without opposition, and will be of much benefit to the ill-used, neglected and deserted wives for whose protection it is intended. The gist of the Bill lies in section 5, the subsection (c) which empowers a third person to receive the money from the husband on behalf of the wife. The section runs as follows :-

Two other Bills of serious import for women were dealt with this session, -but without becoming law, viz., the Irish Municipal Franchise Bill, which failed to J?ass the Lords, and the Midwives' Registration Bill, whICh had been introduced in the House of Lords by Lord Balfour :of Burleigh, and was about to receive further consideration on several important points in committee when the dissolution tbok place.
