ABSTRACT

MISS CHRISTIAN MACLAGAN has lately presented her series of rubbings from the sculptured stones of Scotland to the British Museum. The result of the faithful labour of a long life, these 297 rubbings bring together for the antiquary these widely-scattered and difficult-to-be-reached records of bygone ages, and preserve them for the study and elucidation of future philogists and historians. The riches of this early art is little realised by those who career through the country.
