ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we are going to derive the supply function of a working family from its optimizing behaviour. The key assumption behind our exercise is that children in the family have no bargaining power. Hence, they cannot decide on their own supply of labour. It is the guardian of the family who takes the decision on behalf of the family. In other words, we are not considering intrahousehold bargaining.1
