ON February 13th, theTe passed away, at Boston, Mass., a strong and gentle soul, whose lifework had given her a foremost place among the pioneers of the army of medical women. More than a hundred women now in practice may look back with loving veneration to the time when they first learned frorr.. her the elements of their profession, and at the same time saw in her daily life what its work might become in the bands of a scientific physician who was also an accomplished gentlewoman. As one of the earliest of her students (from 1865 to 1868) I claim the sad privilege of laying a f~w memorial lines upon her tomb.
