ABSTRACT

This chapter develops a framework called Positive Technological Development (PTD) to describe and identify the kinds of positive behaviors through the use of technology: communication, collaboration, community building, content creation, creativity, and choices of conduct. These remind about the positive experiences that children can have while coding, just as they do in the playground. These behaviors are associated with personal assets that describes by decades of research on positive youth development (PYD) looking at the dynamic relations between individuals and contexts needed for thriving. The chapter addresses each of the 6 Cs as they relate to coding and young children. It connects a C referring to one of the positive behaviors with a C referring to a positive personal asset: content creation and competence, creativity and confidence, choices of conduct and character, communication and connection, collaboration and caring, and community building and contribution. In total, these 12 Cs form the backbone of the PTD framework.
