ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the book to its readers. It links together some key concepts and the contexts of focus. It makes a case for a focus on disaster risk governance as a central ingredient in achieving the objectives of disaster risk reduction in developing countries—Jamaica, Dominica, Kenya, and Zanzibar. The chapter also introduces readers to the questions guiding the book as well as the conceptual framework used to present and analyze the materials. It uses direct quotes and boxes to augment the broad arguments presented.
