ABSTRACT

Presentation Day at the University of London was held last month, the annual ceremony being held in the theatre of the University, Burlington Gardens. There was a large gathering of students and then* friends, ladies being more numerous than ever, doubtless on account of the increasing number of lady graduates and undergraduates. Earl Granville, the Chancellor, presided, and was supported by other members of the senate. Sir John Lubbock, the Parliamentary representative of the University, was also present, and among others who witnessed the ceremony were Sir R. N. Fowler, M.P., Sir A. K. Rollit, M.P., Mrs. Dr. Bryant, Miss Anna Swanwick, Miss Beale, Mrs. Garrett Anderson, Professor M. J. M. Hill, Mr. Israel Abrahams, MA., Professor Wilkins, Mr. E. S. Weymouth, M.A, Mr. L. B. Abrahams, B.A., Professor R. S. Heath, Dr. R. D. Roberts, Principal Jones, the Rev. Principal Caye, 260Professor Curnow, Dr. Norman Moore, Dr. Langdon Down, Dr. F. W. Paw, Dr. VV. M; Ord, Dr. W. H. Broadbent, Mr. M. Sheild, M.B., Dr. A, E. Sansom, Mr. A. P. Gould, M.B., and Mr. W. Pole, Mus. Doc. The gaudy robes •which denote the medical and musical degrees at the University, the prevailing tints of which are vermilion and bright yellow, gave a considerable amount of colour to the gathering. There were a considerable number of ladies among the graduates, and they were of course greeted with loud cheers by the gathering, the reception of Mrs.- Scharlieb being especially hearty.
