ABSTRACT

The accomplishment of any military objective requires a specific method in the employment of naval forces. In generic terms a method of combat employment could be described as the arrangement of diverse actions and measures in terms of time and place aimed at accomplishing a given objective. Methods of combat employment of naval forces are subject to changes over time. A major naval/joint operation is planned and conducted by forces of the navy but with substantial participation by other services. A naval battle is the most complex method of tactical combat employment of naval forces. The main features of a modern naval battle are decisiveness and high intensity of actions, sudden and radical changes of the situation, large spatial extent, and the use of diverse tactical methods and procedures. Maritime campaigns are the only method of employment of naval forces to accomplish a strategic objective.
