ABSTRACT

The Committee met on February 9th to discuss the .form which the Women's Memorial to the late Mr. Fawcett should take. Lady Goldsmid, as president, explained the original suggestion to place a tablet with medallion portrait in Westminster Abbey had been abandoned owing to a private communication from the Dean wherein he states that the Women's Memorial is not based upon those grounds which, in his opinion, constitute Mr. Fawcett's claim to a place in the Abbey. Her ladyship thought a drinking-fountain placed in some much frequented public pJace would be a suitable form for the memorial, and this would probably meet the views of those ladies who desired that the fund should be devoted to a useful purpose.
