ABSTRACT

The election of Poor Law Guardians which has just taken place, is an event to cause unequivocal satisfaction, as it has resulted in the return of an increased number of ladies. Year by year the services which educated, thoughtful and practical women can render to the most unfortunate, ignorant and helpless, of their fellow countrymen and women, has been acknowledged to an increased extent. We have not yet received reports of all the elections that have resulted in the return of ladies, but we have heard enough to show that the principle of engaging women in cooperation with men in the army of unpaid servants of the public which is the pride and strength of England is rapidly gaining ground.
