ABSTRACT

All friends of justice and fair play must have been thoroughly content and satisfied with the victory won in the convocation of the University of Oxford on April 29th. The vote was obviously such as no future reaction can undo; 785 members voted, and of these four-thirds, or a majority of 464 to 321 were in favour of admitting women to examination; neither has the victory been accidental, for long preparation was given; supporters on both sides were beaten up and both were fully prepared for the struggle. Convocation, or the great body of registered graduates has now given an emphatic approval to a statute which was twice accepted by Congregation or the body of resident graduates, only by much smaller majorities.
