ABSTRACT
In 1878 Lord Granville in announcing that the University of London was about to open its doors to women, expressed a hope that there would be a considerable number of women ready to respond to this invitation. That hope has been abundantly justified by events; but until lately the highest degrees have not been taken by women for the earlier steps of the University course occupy some years.
