ABSTRACT

A proposal is to be laid before the Chamber to institute an annual fete to the honour and glory of Joan of Arc. This fete, which is to take place on May 8, the day of "the glorious deliverance of Orleans," they expect to be partaken in by all France, for Joan of Arc belonged to no party, but to France. The articles to be laid before the Chamber bear the names of 200 deputies of all the different parties of the Left; they are as follows:—"1. The French Republic will annually celebrate the fete of Joan of Arc, which will be the fete of patriotism. 2. This fete to take place on May 8," in honour of France's maiden deliverer. If this fete la established, we think that no Frenchman would be able to echo Admiral Maxse's reason for refusing the suffrage to women—the reason that women cannot fight
