ABSTRACT

A correspondent of La Donna enumerates a considerable number of Roumanian ladies who have in imitation of, or in conjunction with, the Queen Elizabeth, distinguished themselves in literature. It is the most hopeful sign for the mental activity of any country that women should participate actively with men in forming its literature. The Queen, as is already well known, writes fluently verse or prose in English, French, German, or Roumanian. Her last work is in Roumanian, Stones of the Mountaineers (Povestile Pelesului), and is another proof of her keen affection for her adopted country.
