ABSTRACT

A protest was signed by aU the ladies wbo are registered medieal practitioners, setting forward their claim to form part 01' the Congress, but it met with no response. A story is eurrent in London that at the preliminary meeting of the Executive Committee, the majority were disposed to follow the precedent in this matter, hut were dissuaded by Sir William Jenner, who deelared that Le was empowered to remove the name of the Queen as patron of tbe Congress if ladies were admitted. The story is not worthy of credence. It ja likely enough that Sir Wi1liam Jenner made a most emphatic protest against the admission of ladies, as he, happily without effeet, strenuously opposed the admission of female students to the examinations of the London University; but it is ab801utely ineredible that he had any authority to use Her Majesty's name to influenee the Congress.
