ABSTRACT

Most business and leisure travelers feel comfortable in predictable environments. Sojourners or travelers for short- or long-term presence in a new environment are enjoying their travel and are more successful in the business assignments and are able to react and behave in new and often unpredictable situations with little visible discomfort or irritation. Discomfort leads to frustration and negative feelings and stereotyping. Role perception is subject to change according to time, place, and circumstances. But since the mid-twentieth century, the defined roles have changed at an accelerating rate. Role shock may be apparent as a result of organizational mergers or acquisition, or of reorganization or redesign of a system. The outcome may cause a person's position to be combined with others, downsized, or even lost. Cooperation in world trade and commerce is considered by many to be humanity's best chance to maintain global peace and prosperity.
