ABSTRACT
Ramose’s article is an exploration of the contest about the meaning of philosophy. In particular, he proposes to substantiate the thesis that the meaning and, by implication the use of ‘philosophy’ continues to be contested. He situates this contest in the context of philosophy in South Africa arguing that the future of philosophy in South Africa lies precisely in the willingness to contest the meaning and use of ‘philosophy’.
