ABSTRACT
THE LUCKNOW PACT T he outcome of the Lucknow Congress, in con structive politics, was the Lucknow Pact. The main proposals embodied in the Pact with regard to the Hindu-Muslim controversy, which were accepted by the Congress and the Muslim League and by the Government of India itself, ran as follows:—
“ Adequate provisions should be made for the representation of important minorities by election and the Muhammadans should be represented through special electorates on the Provincial Legis lative Councils in the following proportions:
“ Provided that no Muhammadan shall participate in any of the other elections to the Imperial or Pro vincial Legislative Councils, save and except those by electorates representing special interests.
