ABSTRACT
Panofsky’s observations regarding the modern dominance of one particular version of
perspective – Albertian pictorial perspective – sits in tension with a number of drawing
techniques, and in particular with what might be taken to be its antithesis, axonometric
projection. If pictorial perspective is an attempt to communicate the world view of the
sovereign individual, whose view is shared – or rather, shaped – by the axonometric?1
