ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the three major schools of ethics in Western philosophy: universal principles (Kantian) ethics; utilitarianism; and virtue ethics. The main arguments within each school are presented, with criticisms and business applications. A roadmap for ethical decision making is presented based on six tests: knowledge; consultancy; universality; consequences; good life; and transparency. The chapter ends with identifying how to develop an ethical mindset, including the importance of having a moral identity, motivation, and courage.
