ABSTRACT

Interventions recommended to our patients must be based upon evidence of effectiveness of specific interventions for specific needs. Generic strategies blindly applied across multiple conditions are less helpful than interventions geared toward our patients’ and family wishes. Clinicians need to learn what works for what needs and become advocates of scientifically based strategies for improving our patients’ concerns. Some of these interventions may include schools and other professionals, but all must be developmentally appropriate, geographically accessible, and financially feasible. An emphasis should be placed upon building the self-esteem and resilience of our clientele.
