ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Japanese adult videos (AVs), the core object of inspection. Japanese AVs are a variety of pornographic material that took shape in Japan in the early 1980s. 'Pink film’ is a general term referring to all the softcore pornographic movies produced in Japan throughout the late 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. After the mid-1970s, when the market for pink films had shrunk, pink film makers began to sell their movies as ‘videotape’ programmes in various motels across the country to make up for the decline in theatre profit. The vinyl cover book was a kind of softcore pornographic magazine in the mid-1970s and 1980s. Sold in a sealed plastic cover, it portrayed beautiful female models in transparent panties with their legs wide open. In the movie, the sexual needs of the woman are by and large fulfilled by the man, who could always sexually gratify the woman.
