ABSTRACT

South Korea's electronics sector, which is technically part of the information communications and telecommunications (ICT) sector, has played a major role in the world economy in its own right in terms of sheer sales revenue let alone innovative practices. Investment in renewable-energy development, by the Moon Jae-in administration, is ushering in a new era of technology development in terms of investment, innovation and intellectual property rights (IPR). Samsung Electronics, the largest part of the Samsung Chaebol, despite Lee Jae-yong being given a five-year jail sentence on 25 August 2017, has benefitted from the demise of the Park administration and the rise of the Moon Jae-in government. Nuclear power was encouraged by the Park Geun-hye administration as, like Japan, Republic of Korea (ROK) has very few natural resources such as fossil fuels to provide for its energy needs. China has been moving into renewable energy to solve its low quality of life in the cities because of unrelenting pollution.
