ABSTRACT

Protection of an individual’s privacy is undoubtedly the most contentious issue facing civil drone usage throughout the world. Drones have the potential to pose a serious threat to a person’s privacy or a business’s commercial activities. As drones become cheaper and more capable they can accommodate highresolution, lightweight digital cameras with audio recording devices. This new mode of surveillance provides a cost-effective way for governments, companies and individuals to observe and collect information on citizens-potentially without their knowledge or consent. In the US privacy issues were the primary reason for delays to a number of the government’s mandated deadlines to integrate drones into the NAS.
