ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a detailed analysis of the qualitative primary research data. It also offers details of individuals featured in case-studies who were experiencing depression. The chapter presents details of those individuals featured in the case-studies who were subject to criminal investigations. It considers 'Alcohol Abuse', some researchers link alcohol abuse with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); however, there was only one case-study in which this link was evident. The primary research suggested that the media reported suicides regardless of occupation. Even given that the national average of male suicides is acknowledged to be far higher than that of female suicides, the numerical difference between the sexes of officers within this analysis appears disproportionate. The ages at which the officers experienced suicidal ideation reveal a disparity when compared with the ages of those in the general community who complete suicide. There were media suggestions that workplace issues contributed to the suicidal ideation of some of those featured in the case-studies.
