ABSTRACT

The researchers whose work is considered offer a source of information that contributes to an overall understanding of officer suicide. From the primary research, the ratio of officers to staff would appear conclusive that the suicide precipitators relevant to the research pertaining to the suicide of officers and staff are predominantly specific to those who have worked as officers rather than staff. A comparison of suicide precipitators suggested by the primary research on the case-studies is now measured against the precipitators suggested by the researchers to whom reference was made in the survey of relevant literature. No officers within the primary research were identified as suffering from problems involving drug abuse. Within the case-studies of the primary research, a range of precipitators and issues relating to officer suicide were identified which accord with those identified within the literature survey. The literature survey examines accumulated factors, emotional and psychological issues, workplace issues and personal issues.
