ABSTRACT

Paintings by various artists interpret interconnected, accelerated and discontinuous change through the present, the past and the future, in a gallery of images and art flashes along a visual path of anticipation. Number 8 by Jackson Pollock represents interconnected change. The results emphasize the physical act of painting itself. The researchers, led by Richard Taylor of the University of Oregon, argue that Pollock's dripped paint displays the properties of mathematical fractals. Interconnection does not only exist between the elements of the present, but also between the elements of the various coexisting presents. Interconnected change implies an unpredictable future. Speed of a Motorcycle by Giacomo Balla depicts accelerated change. The Scream by Edvard Munch has been chosen to represent discontinuous change. This painting is a symbol of the anguish and confusion that marked the whole life of the Norwegian painter.
