Writing the first draft is the most daunting moment of the entire enterprise. The knowledge of North American archaeology would be considerably different if all CRM literature were freely accessible Pueblo Bonito's weathered ruins glowed with a roseate orange as massing clouds towered high above, dwarfing outcrop and site alike. Flickering hearths and blazing firebrands highlight dark windows and doorways on the terraces of the great house that is Pueblo Bonito. The shrill cries of children playing in the shadows, the quiet talk of men leaning against sun-baked walls the past comes alive in the gloaming. So does the most pervasive sound of all: the scrape, scrape of dozens of grinders against dozens of milling stones as the women prepare the evening meal. These are the initial words of an 80,000 word book on Chaco Canyon. Procrastination is an option when one are working on a contractual deadline on a commercial enterprise with sometimes considerable sums of money involved.
