ABSTRACT
Du Bois first met Kwame Nkrumah in 1945. Later he was invited by Nkrumah to participate in Ghana’s independence celebrations in 1957, but was unable to attend because the United States government had confiscated his passport in 1951. In September 1960 Du Bois wrote an Introduction to the published version of Nkrumah’s address to the United Nations.
