ABSTRACT

Some students monopolize discussion, responding to every prompt with extended comments intended for the instructor and not for their peers. Some writers on teaching see this as another form of silence (McKeachie 2002). As more Asperger spectrum students, who might not fully embody the conventions of social communication, make their way into college classrooms, managing talkers becomes more important to an effective discussion. Talkers are certainly as much of a concern in discussion as silence.
