ABSTRACT

With the correlation coefficient we will be able to determine if there is any systematic association between two continuous variables, the strength or degree of association, and the direction of the association. Another thing to keep in mind about the correlation coefficient is that it is symmetric. If the correlation between cultural consonance and locus of control is really zero, and if we rerun the study 1,000 times, mostly we are going to get correlations slightly different from, but clustered around, zero. Persons who have lower values on cultural consonance tend to have lower values on locus of control, and persons who have higher values on cultural consonance tend to have higher values on locus of control. The hypothesis is that the more we fulfill the shared expectations in your society, the better we feel; so our psychological distress goes down as cultural consonance increases.
