ABSTRACT

At the dig, the weather turned chillier, and sleety rains began to fall. I was disappointed to have to stop digging, and just plain bored. We stayed for three more days, hoping for a let-up, playing cards and string-finger games at the yogwan. When then bad weather continued, it was obvious even to us die-hards that the digging season was over - the ground had gotten soaked, and there was no way to continue to excavate with precision. We lined the pits with plastic sheeting and covered them with sand so we could start up in the spring where we left off. When the van was packed with bones, artifacts and equipment, we had a soggy, slippery drive back to Seoul.
