ABSTRACT

It was one of those rare snowy days in Seoul, and danger lurked on the streets. Not because of the cold - it wasn’t much under freezing - but because of the cars. Snow clearance and sanding appeared to be unknown, and the drivers didn’t seem to have a clue about how to maneuver on the slippery stuff. Even from my room I could hear the crunch of cars sliding into each other out on the main street. Elaine had gone to a distant village for a week. It was a chance to study Korean without interruption, but I felt restless and couldn’t concentrate on my work.
