ABSTRACT

When she discovered that we had cultural confusion in common, Michiko warmed up to me, and regularly joined our group. She began to sit with Elaine, Liesl and me for meals, and made a determined effort to speak English and to follow the conversation. One day when she had no classes, I invited Michiko to come with us to the Buddhist temple in Seoul. We chose the temple for our destination because Ed was curious about Buddhism, and Liesl volunteered to explain its many variations to him. Michiko confessed she knew little about Buddhism, but wanted to learn.
