ABSTRACT

The Cushman Motor Works Oral History Project was conducted by plant employees in honor of the company's centennial. It now is a manufacturer of industrial vehicles and custom vehicles. The Commission of Deaf, Deaf Blind and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans Oral-Visual History Project interviews were done either in spoken English or in American Sign Language (ASL) and recorded in broadcast-quality. The Toolkit emphasizes the idea of taking a community's stories the information that shapes a community's identity and formulating them into community oral history projects. Community oral history is oral history that is not aligned with academic instruction. Community oral history projects are an interrelated set of interviews about an event or way of life in a community. Project Three Historical Society is the first phase of a proposed ongoing program. Its ties to the historical society give it credibility in the community, helping the team identify supporters and future interviewees.
