ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the Project Design Statement and covers the following project planning steps: defining the project goals, focus, scope, and writing a mission statement; naming the project; and beginning a list of project interviewees. Community oral history project goals define the project design structure. Some of the examples of Community Oral History Project Names such as Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project, Pioneers of the Medical Device Industry in Minnesota, Worcester Women's History Project-Oral History Initiative, Greenwich Library Oral History Project and India Association of Minnesota Oral History Project. A search by your community resource people, however, turned up many businesses scattered throughout various neighborhoods, each with a list of possible interviewees. Once your planning team has come to an agreement about a historical focus, the next step is to think about specifics. A mission statement spells out project name, goals, focus, and scope, and includes a statement saying the project is designed to adhere to oral history standards.
