ABSTRACT

This chapter offers the project financial needs, reviews a sample project budget, and identifies ways to meet possible project expenses. Developing a budget matching spending with supportis a key part of oral history project planning. Oral history project funding sources generally fall into several categories grants, donations, and solicited funds. Project planning teams sometimes develop several budget options, ranging from a budget reflecting minimal project support to one at a more well-funded level. Budget items generally fall in one of the following three categories: one-time or non-recurring expenses, overhead cost and per-interview costs. Overhead costs include office equipment, office space, and office supplies. Interview costs cover the cost of doing a project interview. Grants are funds awarded from community, city, state, and national organizations on a competitive basis.
