ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses processing from a planning perspective. Oral history interviewers and transcribers, even experienced ones, benefit from training workshops. Training workshops provide an opportunity for them to review the resources and proposed project content and to become familiar with the project design. A project plan is a basic organizational tool that gets an oral history project off to a strong start. Media management covers media and interview recording storage decisions. Transcribing requires time and commitment, but it preserves interview content in a form that can be easily accessed on an ongoing basis. Interviewer training workshops generally last for a full day; to provide all participants with consistent information, planners should recommend mandatory attendance for all interviewers regardless of their background or previous experience.
