ABSTRACT

This chapter covers basics on oral history project. Oral History Project contains detailed information about planning for the basic community oral history project steps name, goal, mission statement, focus, and scope. Once the oral history project planners complete a plan and the project moves into the management stage, it is easy to focus on the recordings. This chapter discusses the management steps is common to oral history projects, but the ways communities carry them out are unique to each project. The chapter describes best practices for Community Oral History Projects included a standard developed specifically for community oral historians. Ethical practice in oral history is guided by the set of national standards. Several decades ago, the Oral History Association (OHA), the national association for oral history practitioners, developed a set of oral history General Principles and Best Practices. Legal Release Agreements do not need to be lengthy or complicated to serve oral history purposes.
