ABSTRACT

This chapter covers management of an oral history project's human resources the team members that make it work. Consistency in direction is important for oral history projects. Sticking to the project mission statement and interview focus keeps a project on track. Project directors should be prepared to make management decisions that maintain the mission. In some projects, one or two members fill all the project roles; in other projects, each role is filled by one person. Some roles may involve several people, while others such as a bookkeeper or accountant will involve just one person. In addition, resource people and legal advisors may lend their expertise without becoming part of the project team. Keep track of any contracts and related consulting fees in the project files. The project director's responsibilities regarding recording equipment cover overseeing care, maintenance, and scheduling. Project director responsibility is organizing and scheduling a training workshop for interviewers and another one for transcribers, and then overseeing attendance.
