ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a short review of oral history project funding and support options. The most common national options for oral history project funding are the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), and the Institute for Library and Museum Services (IMLS). Possible sources of funding and support range from local and private sources to national grants. The chapter then reviews to general budget management and an overview of grants management. The project budget should identify all income and expenses. Expenses for this oral history project include equipment as a one-time expense, team member payments and value of volunteer team member time as overhead and as per-interview costs, value of media and similar items as per-interview costs, and value of donated items that help defray overhead costs.
