TOOTH SOCKETS (FIGS. 17 & 18) The form of roots is almost as distinctive as the form of the tooth crown, so that the pattern of sockets in the upper and lower jaws is useful for identification, even when the teeth themselves are missing. The figures can also be used as a guide to the number and form of tooth roots.
