I learned later that Dr. Wu had already summoned the police because of the looting by the time the van left. They probably arrived at the Ox River site soon after the white van drove off along the river, on a barely visible track. Joe told the police that both Ashley and I had disappeared. They followed our footprints in the wet track along the river, and found the place where the place where the van had parked. But the white van had left, leaving no trail along the highway.
